Rank Register

This function allows you to set up the rank codes that will be used throughout the System. If you have the appropriate access rights, you will also be able to modify and delete records in this register.

The Rank Register denotes the rank title of a seafarer, for example, Master, Chief Engineer, 2nd Engineer, Cook and so on. Using this register, you will also be able to link a rank to a particular department. A special sort-sequence number is also provided to allow a hierarchical structure of ranks to be set up. When a list of crew is requested to be produced, it will be sorted based on the sequence number and not alphabetically. These codes are defined during implementation and consistently built up upon. This then serves as a reference for end users to streamline day-to-day operations.

Creating Rank Codes

To create rank codes:

1. From the HR Manager main menu, click Registers under the Home - Administration sub menu. Then, click General, followed by Rank.

2. The rank codes that have been previously created will be displayed on the screen. To create a new rank code, click New.

3. The Rank screen will be displayed where you can enter information in the following fields:

Field

Description

Crew Rank

Enter a reference code for the rank. For example to create the code for 'Master', enter 'MAST' as the code.

Description

Enter a description of the rank. If you have entered 'MAST' as the code, then enter 'Master' as the description.

Crew Rank Sort Seq.

Enter the sort sequence of the rank code, i.e., the position of this rank in the hierarchical structure.

Department

Use the Lookup function to select the department under which this rank falls.

Rank Type

Indicate the rank type for this rank, for instance, 'Junior Officer', 'Senior Officer' and so on.

Crew Type

Indicate the crew type for this rank, for instance, 'Trainee', 'Regular Crew' and so on.

Rank Grouping

Indicate the grouping within which this rank would fall.

4. Click Save to complete the creation of this new rank code.

 

 

Editing Rank Codes

To edit existing Rank Codes:

1. From the HR Manager main menu, click Registers under the Home - Administration sub menu. Then, click General, followed by Rank.

2. The rank codes that have been previously created will be displayed on the screen. To edit an existing rank code, click on an entry to view its details on the Rank screen.

3. You may then edit the details of the rank code in the available fields. Please note that the main Crew Rank field cannot be edited.

4. Click Save to save the changes you have made.

 

 

Deleting Rank Codes

To delete existing rank codes:

1. From the HR Manager main menu, click Registers under the Home - Administration sub menu. Then, click General, followed by Rank.

2. The rank codes that have been previously created will be displayed on the screen. To delete an existing rank code, highlight an entry on the screen.

3. Click Delete. Confirm your intention to delete the rank code. The rank code will then no longer be listed on the screen.

Note: Alternatively, you can click on a rank code to view its details on the Rank screen. Click Delete and confirm your intention to delete the code.
